Enabling the Future of Battery Gigafactories
MASS Tech's Integrated Technology Approach
As global electrification accelerates, battery gigafactories have become critical infrastructure in enabling the energy transition. At MASS Tech LLC, based in Greensboro, NC, we have taken a forward-looking approach to empowering battery production by fusing deep domain expertise with cutting-edge manufacturing technology.
Our Battery Gigafactory Technology Architecture, aligned with ISA-95 standards, offers an end-to-end framework for planning, executing, and scaling battery manufacturing. It is built on two foundational pillars: Battery Domain Knowledge and Manufacturing Technology Integration.
Battery Domain Knowledge: From Raw Material to Final Cell
Our team, including experts, brings direct experience from leading North American gigafactories. We understand the critical nuances of the battery cell production process, from mixing and coating to slitting, formation, and packaging. This knowledge ensures that technology integration is not only technically sound but aligned with operational excellence.

Manufacturing Technology Integration: ISA-95 Aligned, Digitally Driven
Our architecture is designed across ISA-95 levels:
Level 0: Core production steps (e.g., Mixing, Coating, Winding, Formation) are mapped and standardized.
Levels 1 & 2: SCADA systems, AGV/ASRS integration, and IoT connectivity (MQTT, PAC) ensure seamless machine-level control and data acquisition.
Level 3: Our MES/MOM platform enables orchestration and execution — managing plant logistics, planning and scheduling, quality control, yield tracking, sustainability, and business intelligence.
Level 4: Strategic layers like ERP and PLM integrate with MES/MOM to handle supply chain, design governance, and lifecycle management.
Our local Greensboro team specializes in deploying MES/MOM solutions with full interoperability between SCADA, ERP, and OT/IT systems.

Sustainability & Circularity: Introducing Battweb
We also bring a sustainability-first mindset through our Battweb framework, focused on the 5R approach: Return, Repair, Reuse, Remanufacture, and Recycle. This enables data-driven traceability and lifecycle management for batteries.

Workforce Development: Building the Future, Locally
We actively collaborate with GTCC, UNCG, and App State to co-create a smart manufacturing talent pipeline. Led by Abi, our workforce development efforts focus on preparing the next generation of digital-savvy manufacturing professionals.
Conclusion: MASS Tech as a Strategic Partner
Whether you're launching a new Gigafactory or optimizing existing operations, MASS Tech brings a unique blend of technology, talent, and transformation to the table. We look forward to collaborating with visionary leaders like Toyota to co-create the future of electrified manufacturing.
